Baldur’s Gate 3 is officially skipping Nintendo Switch 2, and the decision sounds less about power and more about people behind the scenes.
The confirmation came during a recent Reddit AMA with Larian Studios boss Swen Vincke. Asked directly about a Switch 2 version, Vincke didn’t dance around it. The studio wanted to do it, but the call wasn’t theirs to make. That single line was enough to shut down months of quiet hope.

Shortly after, industry leaker NateTheHate added some colour. According to him, the problem sits with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, who own the Dungeons & Dragons licence. The relationship with Larian is, in his words, “not healthy,” and that tension reportedly killed any chance of a Switch 2 port before it could move forward.
This lines up with what we already know. Baldur’s Gate 3 had a long road to release, entering Early Access back in August 2020 before launching fully on PC in August 2023. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions followed later that year, with steady updates arriving until the final major patch landed in April 2025.
For Nintendo fans, it’s a frustrating outcome. The idea of taking such a massive RPG on the go felt perfect for Switch 2. But licensing realities often matter more than demand.

Still, Larian Studios isn’t slowing down. The team is now focused on the next Divinity game, and Vincke has already confirmed one thing clearly: it will not use generative AI artwork. For now, that’s where the studio’s future lies.
