Bungie’s Marathon gets a March 2026 release with tense PvPvE action

Marathon

Bungie has confirmed Marathon will launch in March 2026, revealing a first look at its updated sci-fi extraction shooter.

The game is all about high-stakes PvPvE. Bungie calls it “gunfight poker”, every decision matters. Push for bigger loot or extract before losing it all? Proximity chat adds new ways to form short-term alliances.

Vision of Marathon

Tau Ceti IV is brutal and reactive. Decaying corpses, shifting weather, and tense audio cues tell a story. Composer Ryan Lott’s score amps up fear and adrenaline.

Marathon will launch with four zones. Outer Rim eases newcomers in, Dread Swamp is chaotic PvE, the Outpost challenges with traps and vertical combat, and Cryo Archive on the Marathon ship is the endgame zone. Random events keep runs unpredictable.

Loot is huge: 400+ weapon mods, implants, and shell types let you build stealth assassins, tanks, or hybrid Runners. Rook mode helps newcomers learn without risking main inventory. Factions, seasonal objectives, and The Codex tie progression to story and rewards.

Available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox for £34.99, it has no pay-to-win mechanics. Updates, maps, and shells come free post-launch.

This looks set to deliver tense, rewarding runs. March 2026 can’t come soon enough.
