Resident Evil Requiem is shaping up to be a wild ride. After its reveal at The Game Awards 2025, director Akifumi Nakanishi has shared how the game will split players between two very different experiences.
Leon and Grace offer completely different gameplay in Resident Evil Requiem
According to Nakanishi, the game is almost evenly split between Leon Kennedy and new character Grace. But don’t expect them to play the same. Leon’s sections are pure action, focusing on fast-paced combat and high adrenaline moments. He’s “not really built for horror,” Nakanishi admits, so players get to feel more in control during his chapters.
Grace, on the other hand, is where the tension hits hard. Her chapters are scarier, slower, and designed to keep players on edge. The contrast is intentional, creating a rhythm that constantly shifts from action to horror.

Nakanishi even compares the experience to “jumping into a cold bath after a hot sauna.” The game deliberately alternates between safety and fear, keeping players unsettled and hooked.
It’s a clever structure, almost like getting two games in one. Action fans and horror fans will both get their fix, and switching between the two keeps the gameplay fresh from start to finish.
This approach could make Resident Evil Requiem one of the most dynamic entries in the series yet.
