After years of requests, Pillars of Eternity is finally getting the turn-based treatment. Obsidian Entertainment has confirmed that the classic RPG’s long-awaited combat mode is arriving through a public beta on 5th November 2025, and yes, it’s open to everyone.

The update gives players a fresh way to experience the original game, swapping out its real-time battles for a more tactical, slower-paced approach. You can flip between the two modes whenever you like, and early impressions suggest combat feels snappier and more balanced than Deadfire’s take on turn-based.

It’s been a standout year for Obsidian, with Grounded and The Outer Worlds 2 keeping the studio busy, but this move shows it hasn’t forgotten where it all started. There’s still no word on Pillars of Eternity 3, yet with Microsoft in the picture, fans have reason to stay hopeful. For now, this beta might just be the perfect reason to dust off your save and return to Eora once again.
