Oblivion Remastered has now pulled in over 9 million players since its launch on April 22. Bethesda shared the news with a picture of the adoring fan, now rocking a goofy haircut shaped like the number 9. A classic throwback, if you’ve played the original.
The message was short. Just a thank you to everyone who fought in the Arena, led the Mages Guild, and ran around as the Gray Fox. No video, no promo, just vibes.
The game blew up fast. It hit 4 million players in two days. Launching on Game Pass for Xbox and PC definitely helped. But even beyond player count, it sold well. Circana says Oblivion Remastered was April’s best-selling game in the US across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

Newzoo called its launch a “benchmark for future remasters.” Revenue performance was Strong, fans were engaged so everything looked good.
But behind the scenes, things aren’t perfect. Virtuos, the team behind the remaster, laid off around 280 employees. Cuts hit offices in Europe and Asia. No word yet on how that affects future updates.
That’s a problem, because the game still runs rough. The infamous stuttering from the original is still here. Update 1.2 helped a bit, but didn’t fix it all. Exploration the core of any Elder Scrolls game still feels janky in places.

So, what’s the takeaway? Oblivion Remastered is a hit. The fans are back. The memes are alive. But unless performance gets sorted, it won’t be the definitive way to play.
