Morbid Metal hits Early Access on August 20 with free demo now available

Morbid Metal is heading into Early Access for PC on Steam on 20 August, as announced by Ubisoft and developer SCREEN JUICE. A free demo is already available for those wanting to jump in early.

The demo features one biome and introduces a new playable character, Ekku. It also showcases the game’s standout “Shapeshift Combat” system, letting you dodge, counter, and chain together stylish combos while switching between characters in real time.

About Morbid Metal

At its core, Morbid Metal is a roguelite action game where you control a team of up to four characters. Each has unique active abilities and special moves. The real magic is in shapeshifting between them mid-fight, creating creative combos, and handling tougher enemies with ease.

Set in a distant future, the game features diverse biomes—from crumbling wastelands to overgrown ruins. Levels are semi-procedurally generated, meaning no two runs will feel quite the same. With each fight, you grow stronger through upgrades, but if you die, your run resets—except for any permanent upgrades or character unlocks you’ve collected.

Features

  • Fast, fluid, and stylish combat
  • Real-time shapeshifting between four characters
  • Combo-focused attack system
  • Semi-random level generation
  • A dark, futuristic world with high-end visuals
  • Permanent upgrades and roguelite progression

Morbid Metal combines high-octane action with replayable roguelite mechanics. Whether you’re into flashy combat or strategic character-building, it’s shaping up to offer a solid mix of both.

The full Early Access version launches on 20 August. The demo is out now on Steam if you want to get a head start.
