A new story, a familiar face, and a darker world to survive.
Dying Light: The Beast is launching on 22nd August for PS5, Xbox, PS4, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Techland announced that anyone who owns the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2: Stay Human will get this new game for free, no extra charge, no strings attached.
This isn’t just an expansion of Dying Light. It’s a full standalone adventure, set in Castor Woods, a remote area that was once a tourist hotspot but is now a haunted ruin filled with the undead. You play as Kyle Crane, the same man who risked everything during the original outbreak. But this time, it’s different.

After spending over a decade locked away and used for experiments, Crane finally breaks free. The experiments left their mark, giving him beast-like powers tied to the virus. With revenge on his mind and a world that’s only grown more dangerous, he sets off into the woods to uncover the truth and hunt down the people who changed him.

But the forest isn’t empty. Survivors still cling to life in scattered groups, some offering help, while others are hostile. Factions have formed, and something terrifying is said to be roaming the trees once night falls.
What makes Dying Light: The Beast different?
- Kyle returns – You’re back as the original protagonist, but he’s not the same. Years of captivity and mutation have changed him. Now he has the skills and power to do far more damage and maybe save even more lives.
- A tightly packed open world – Castor Woods offers a dense, varied landscape. You’ll move between villages, old factories, and forest paths. Whether you’re running across rooftops or taking off in an abandoned 4×4, movement is still a huge part of surviving.
- Power from within – The virus that was once a threat now gives you strength. The beast inside isn’t just a story — it’s you. You can unleash this power in battle, but it comes with its risks.
- Survival split by time – During the day, you can explore, gather supplies, and talk to the people still holding on. At night, things get worse. The zombies grow more aggressive, and danger multiplies in the dark.
- Play solo or in co-op – Whether you go it alone or team up with up to three friends, the choice is yours. Just be ready — not everything can be fought head-on.

Dying Light: The Beast looks like it’s aiming for a darker, more personal experience, with the same tense atmosphere and kinetic movement the series is known for. It’s a fresh start, but one that carries the weight of everything that came before.
Mark your calendars for 22nd August. Kyle’s back, and this time, the monster might be you.
