Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy announced for PS5, Xbox, and PC with new action-packed story

Asobo Studio is returning to the world of A Plague Tale, but this time, things are different. Their next game, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, is set 15 years before Requiem, and instead of following Hugo or Amicia, it’s all about Sophia—a character players will remember from the last game. It’s coming in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC.

A fresh chapter in the A Plague Tale universe

This new story will be more action-focused. According to Asobo’s creative head, David Dedeine, they wanted to tell Sophia’s story with a fresh approach, bringing faster combat and a more intense style while keeping the emotional weight the series is known for. “This game lets us try something new, and explore new places and ideas we hadn’t touched before,” he said.

Focus Entertainment, the publisher, is backing the project fully. Managing director John Bert said that both teams care deeply about the franchise and are excited to expand it in this direction. “Bringing myth and combat together gives us a chance to tell a new kind of story.”

So, what is Resonance about?

You’ll play as Sophia, a clever and tough young plunderer on the run. She ends up on the Minotaur’s Island, where danger is around every corner. Along the way, she’ll be solving puzzles, fighting enemies, and trying to stay ahead of the army chasing her. But something worse is lurking on the island, something tied to the myths that have lasted for centuries.

Plague Tale moves between two timelines, Sophia’s world in the Middle Ages and the much older era of ancient Minoan civilisation. These two timelines are connected by a strange curse known as the Macula. This evil force, which fans of the series will recognise, is making a return in a new form.

You’ll also use a stolen Minoan artefact that can control light. This tool becomes key to solving puzzles across the island. At the same time, you’ll use your speed, reflexes, and skills to survive deadly encounters. Parrying attacks, outsmarting enemies, and staying hidden will all be part of staying alive.

And you’re never really alone.

Something unknown is following you across the island. It’s not just the army that’s after you—there’s something much older and more dangerous in the shadows. The deeper you go, the more you’ll uncover the truth behind the island’s dark past.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy looks like it will build on the series’ strengths while also pushing into new territory. It’s faster, more physical, and filled with myth and mystery. And for fans of Sophia, it’s a chance to see what shaped her long before Requiem.

We’ll have to wait until 2026 to see how it all comes together, but it already sounds like a journey worth taking.
