Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, an explosive new 4v4 fighting game coming to PS5 and PC

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arc System Works are joining forces with Marvel Games to launch MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls, a brand-new four-versus-four tag team fighter, coming to PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store in 2026.

This one’s shaping up to be something special, especially if you’re a fan of stylish fighters or just love seeing your favourite Marvel characters duke it out in spectacular fashion.

According to PlayStation Studios and senior producer Reed Baird over on the PlayStation Blog, the goal is to make Marvel Tokon both accessible and deep. Whether you’re new to the genre or a seasoned pro, Arc System Works has put a lot of effort into building a control scheme that feels intuitive and exciting to use. So, you’ll be able to enjoy flashy combos and cinematic finishes even if you don’t know your quarter circles from your dragon punches.

Marvel Tokon director Kazuto Sekine explains that, unlike most team-based fighters, where you need to learn a whole roster of characters, here you can just master one and still have fun. It’s all about big moments and dynamic tag-ins, where multiple heroes can rush the screen to combo together or back each other up with style.

And yes, the 4v4 format is a first in this genre. After bouncing between ideas from classic one-on-one battles to three-on-three setups, the dev team decided to push things further. Their thinking was simple: Marvel is all about epic team-ups and over-the-top action, so why not bring that to life with four fighters per side? It’s bold, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Arc System Works.

So who’s joining the battle? So far, they’ve revealed a stacked lineup including Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Storm, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, and Ghost Rider (the Robbie Reyes version). Each character has their unique flair and design inspired by Marvel lore but remixed with that signature ArcSys flair.

Producer Takeshi Yamanaka said picking the roster was tough, but they focused on iconic faces, a good mix of fighting styles, and threw in a few surprises, too. Notably, some characters have never been playable in a fighting game before, so expect some fun reveals down the line.

Visually, The Marvel Tokon leans into a stylised anime-inspired look rather than a Western comic aesthetic. Early experiments with a comic-book shader were scrapped after feedback from the Marvel team, who encouraged ArcSys to double down on what they do best—stunning Japanimation visuals.

Combat-wise, each fighter gets their own set of Normal, Special, and Unique moves, along with jaw-dropping Ultimate Skills. From short pokes to screen-shaking super moves, the goal is to capture the feel of each character while keeping things fresh and fast-paced.

Stage design is also getting the spotlight. Environments like Marvel’s New York aren’t just packed with easter eggs, they’re layered and interactive. Many feature multiple zones that players can knock each other through, blending spectacle with strategy.

Right now, there’s plenty we still don’t know about Marvel Tokon modes, full roster, and online features, but this first reveal has certainly got our attention. A proper Marvel fighting game made by the kings of anime fighters? Sign us up.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls as more info drops. Let’s hope 2026 gets here quickly.
