Romero Games has confirmed it is still active. The studio responded after confusion spread online.
Last week, Microsoft laid off 9,000 employees. The cuts hit many teams, even ones it didn’t own. Romero Games, founded by DOOM creator John Romero, lost funding for its current project. That project is now cancelled.

Some developers from the studio also lost their jobs. This led many to believe that the studio had shut down.
Romero Games says it’s still running
That’s not true. In a new social media post, Romero Games wrote:
“Studio is not closed, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure that it does not come to that. Indeed, we were in the studio today to discuss next steps with the team.”
The studio admitted the game was cancelled due to funding loss. It also confirmed layoffs happened. But it strongly denied closing.

Since the cancellation, studio has been talking to several publishers. These talks could help bring the cancelled project back to life.
The future isn’t clear yet. But the team is trying to move forward.
If things work out, this delay could just be a small bump in the road. With luck, we’ll see the return of Romero Games’ next project soon.
